thought fillers and time killers

preemptively inspired

Who would have thought that I’d be proactive to preempt the inspiration that came later this evening? My parents gave me a new cookbook for Christmas, “Vegetarian Times: Fast and Easy.” Perfect for me. I rarely have time for anything other than string cheese and cookies. A friend told me the other day that I eat more cereal than anyone she’s ever known. I think granola bars were one of the oddest inventions; I just take my bowls of cereal to work with me. I’ve only broken a few bowls in process. The trials and tribulations of working in a building full of cement floors…and me, the proud owner of a “drop it like you’re clumsy” t-shirt. Anyhoo, after getting this cookbook, I thought, I’ll make a recipe a week. I can do that. Pick one at random, grocery shop with it in mind, and I’ll make it for Jason and I to enjoy. At least we’ll have one non-spaghetti or stirfry meal a week. Tonight was the first (ok, so maybe it’s more than a week after Christmas…) and I made Grilled Smoked Mozzarella Sandwiches.

This photo isn’t really it, but it’s fairly indicative of the result. It was yummy. I like sundried tomatoes, and I love the basil/mozzarella/tomato combination. It’s the whole reason I grew basil on my porch this summer.

Then later, while enjoying a glass of red wine, Jason and I watched “Julie and Julia.” I don’t think I’d ever be crazy enough, rich enough, or have enough time to do what Julie Powell did. But it was admirable, and the movie made me laugh out loud a lot, which I appreciate. So it prompted me to at least put a red check mark and date on page 18 of my new cookbook. The first page I utilized, hopefully not the last.
